Karie Stupek

Despite what most people think, there is more to Wisconsin than cheese. To set the record straight, we spoke to Karie Stupek, a native of Wisconsin.

TH: Do Wisconsinites really love cheese as much as they are believed to?

KS: We are obsessed.

TH: With Wisconsin being the dairy capital of the United States, and with Bee-Pure Honey being based out of Milwaukee, is it possible that Wisconsin is the land of milk and honey?

KS: What a nice thought.

TH: How do Packers' fans feel about the Brett Favre saga?

KS: We went from disappointment, to dismay, to disgust in rapid order.

TH: What do you consider the top three "must-see" attractions in Wisconsin?

KS: #1 - Milwaukee's lakefront. Most people don't realize that Milwaukee is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan. The shoreline curves to frame the downtown skyline and a very limited number of buildings have been built close to the water. Instead there are parks, festival grounds, marinas and museums right on the water.

#2 - Madison Farmers' Market. Our state capitol hosts the largest produce-only farmers' market in the country. It's located right on the Capitol Square and is amazing in its size, variety of products and great people watching.

#3 - Door County Peninsula. Over 300 miles of shoreline with 30 islands and home to 5 state parks and 10 lighthouses - it's an amazing destination. Great biking, hiking and watersports plus artist galleries, quaint B&Bs and outdoor concerts and plays. Money Magazine named it one of the top ten vacation destinations in North America.

TH: With lows often below 20° F in the winter, do residents go out at all, or do they just stay in?

KS: We have perfected snuggling to an art form.

TH: Do Wisconsinites like being called "Cheeseheads" or would they be offended if an out-of-towner referred to them as such?

KS: We're never offended. You can tell they're so jealous.

TH: What's your favorite type of cheese?

KS: Wisconsin goat.

TH: Which is most important to the typical Wisconsinite: the Green Bay Packers, cheese, or beer?

KS: That would be like asking which is your favorite child.

TH: What's your personal opinion on Wisconsin's state motto "Forward"?

KS: So much better than "Backward," don't you think?

TH: We end all interviews with world association, so I say "wombat" and you say...

KS: Steve.
