For our ongoing Ask A... series, we decided that we needed some of our questions answered about the great country of England. Luckily we were able to find Victoria, a lady who was born and raised in England, before transplanting to the United States. She was kind enough to shed some insight on her country of birth, which you can read below. Q: What's the deal with the English breakfast? Do the English really eat baked beans in the morning, and why? A: Well, because they're good & we eat them for breakfast. They're part of a traditional english breakfast, yummy! Q: Are "tea times" still popular, and what exactly is a crumpet? A: Yes, I suppose it is still popular. I don't know what a crumpet really is, but I know they're really good! Q: Does everyone really love the Queen along with the entire royal family, or is it just something that some English people put up with? A: Well, I guess there really isn't any choice than to put up with the Queen. English people love the monarchy, but not necessarily the Queen. Q: In your opinion, what is England's greatest quality? A: The people in England are very friendly & open; nice to be around. Q: Is the history on the American Revolution discussed in school, or is it just sort of passed over? A: I don't remember hearing much about the American Revolution, mainly focused on English history. Q: Obviously tradition is important, but what's your viewpoint on judges and certain members of Parliament still wearing gowns, wigs, and other old fashioned clothing? Is it time for a change, or is it necessary for tradition's sake? A: I don't really have much of a viewpoint of them wearing that type of clothing; however, I wouldn't say that it's time for a change. I believe that it is necessary, not only for tradition, but as part of English culture. Q: Do you have an interesting fact about England that you'd like to share? A: Well, the world's oldest public zoo was opened in London in 1828. |
