Interview with comedian Melinda Hill Print
Written by Simon Thorn

Melinda Hill is a stand-up comedian who has appeared on The Late Late Show. She has also made appearances on The Sarah Silverman Program, and the wonderfully funny yet short-lived show The Winner. You can view her tour schedule, including information on her weekly show at the Tiger Lily Bar, at her MySpace page MySpace.com/MelindaHill1.

Q: We love your twisted and yet hilarious character, Coco Lipshitz. How did you dream up such a remarkably funny persona?

MH: Coco came to me in a dream. A wet dream. She is literally the woman of my wet dreams. And it's my hope that she can live on in the wet dreams of countless others as well.

Q: It's so easy to plug personal performances, so let's be different. Give us three reasons to not see you in your critically acclaimed show "What's up, Tiger Lily?"

MH: 1) The laughter needs to end.
2) Together, we can stop laughter.
3) Think globally, but stop laughing locally. Start with baby steps: "Just for today, I will not laugh or crack a smile."

Q: How much of a disadvantage is it for you to be:
A) A female comic?

MH: It's basically like being a paraplegic stuck in quick sand.

B) An extremely attractive female comic?

MH: It's basically like being an extremely attractive paraplegic stuck in quick sand.

Q: We loved your recent blog on your voyage to the Spearmint Rhino. We here at the staff have (unfortunately?) dropped many a dollar down at that haven of pole dancing. Why do you think so many men frequent strip clubs considering it's never anything more than a tease?

MH: Let's face it, everyone loves a hot broad who's willing to show you her tits.

Q: We noticed that you were forced to choose MelindaHill1 as your name on Myspace since Melinda Hill was taken. Do you ever feel like writing her and saying "Hey bitch, I was on "The Sarah Silverman Program," not you. Give up the tag to someone who matters!"?

MH: Um, no.

Q: You list the very talented Maria Bamford as one of your influences. We also love the work of your co-host from Tiger Lily. We interviewed her last year and strangely she didn't list you as one of her influences. Hmmm, what's up with that?

MH: You're right, it is strange that 2 different people would have different comedic influences. Especially since one started doing comedy about 10 years sooner than the other. Bizarre.

Q: What's a personal fascinating factoid that your fans would be shocked to know?

MH: I tend to lose lids.

Q: How do you think you've done so far in this interview?

MH: I think I'm winning by a land slide.

Q: Where can we catch more of you in 2008?

MH: At Tiger Lily every Monday night and on my CD now available on iTunes: "Melinda Hill Live at Comedy Central Stage."

Q: Let's end with word association. I say "wombat" and you say...

MH: Faggot.
