Everybody's Fine plays on the familiar phrase that we all use when we really don't want to discuss what's really going on. Robert De Niro plays a widow who is trying to reconnect with his kids. Instead of his kids coming to visit for Christmas, they all bow out, so he decides to play a visit to each of them to see what exactly is going on. At its core, Everybody's Fine is a film about reconnecting. There are a few laughs mixed in, but mostly it's about De Niro's character reconnecting with his kids and helping them through their tough times. Things aren't going well for his children, and they don't want to let their dad in on the issues since they fear disappointing him. But their dad has reached that age where he's not concerned about their perceived success or failures, he's more concerned about the family breaking apart and he wants to be the glue that brings them back together. Fearless Prediction: De Niro's character solves each of his kid's issues and dissolves their fears with his words of wisdom. At the end of the film the kids all end up together for dinner, as De Niro wanted, but not before De Niro suffers a heart attack (which he winds up recovering from). Predictive Score: 3.5 out of 5 Opens: 12/4/09 Rating: PG-13 Note: Predictive score is based upon how good we feel the movie will be. The Fearless Prediction is our prediction on what will happen in the movie, but not necessarily what will occur. |
