The Princess and the Frog - (Pre)Review Print

The Princess and the Frog is the latest animated film by Disney, the masters of animation. The film itself is a twist on the classic tale The Prince Frog, and in this case is set in the distinct setting of New Orleans (or as we like to say, Nawlens). As for the film itself, the animation comes across as something that Disney may have released 50 years ago. It lacks the sparkle that many recent animated films have had, and while the story is better than certain blockbuster animated films (Cars), it ends up being a bit of a letdown in the end.

One of the biggest travesties of the film is that it is set in New Orleans. We have nothing against this fine city, but how is there a Princess there? Little 6-year olds probably won't care, and parents will think nothing of it, but when these kids flunk their SATs because they incorrectly write about the Kings and Queens of the United States there will be some tears and fist-shaking going on over this film. In that sense, while The Princess and the Frog is not a great film, it will be widely remembered and go down as a classic of sorts.

Fearless Prediction: With its New Orleans dialect and poor animation, the film will be considered racist by many (especially given Disney's early history with race). The frogs will both turn back into humans at the end of the film, and the evil witch doctor will be cast away.

Predictive Score: 2.5 out of 5
