1) In a foreign country. - The issue with an accident isn't so much with dealing with a language barrier, but think for a moment about the international roaming costs that you will have to pay to speak with your insurance company. Plus, if you were driving on the wrong side of the road you will never live it down with your family. 2) Anywhere while on a first date. - First dates are all about making a good impression, and it's hard to make a good impression if you spend half the night exchanging insurance information and contacting your insurance company. Even if the accident wasn't your fault, the night will be quite a let-down, and no number of talking geckos or ducks will likely be able to salvage the night. 3) In the parking lot of an auto-repair shop. - On one hand it's convenient that you're already near an auto-body shop, but on the other hand people will always tell you "that's ironic" when you recite the story. There's nothing worse than irony when it involves yourself. 4) In a parade. - Whether you are driving a float when the accident occurs, or are driving ahead of the parade and cause an accident that delays the parade, the outcome is anything but festive. Besides, if you do hit a float, what information do you give your insurance company on the vehicle that was damaged? "Uh, it's a giant dragon with about 25,000 flowers. No one was injured, but 2,000 roses have bloomed their last." 5) In your neighbor's yard. - There's no living down the neighborhood gossip when you get in an accident in your neighbor's yard. Whether you knocked down the mailbox, or killed a giant replica of Frosty, your neighbor will be none-too-happy. Besides, you were probably drunk (why else would you run-down Frosty?), so you will probably get a DUI and at the very least an intervention from your friendliest of neighbors. 6) Before the Super Bowl. - This is, of course, assuming that you are attending the Super Bowl (or any other major sporting event). You most likely spent a couple grand on the tickets, and now you get to explain to the police on why you shouldn't get another one. On the other hand, if there's enough damage to your car and it has to be towed, you no longer have to worry about finding a parking spot for under $100. 7) On a test drive. - So you're test driving a car and proceed to total it, what excuse can you provide for not buying it now? "I really didn't like how it handled on that 360° spin-out" or perhaps "the front-end really didn't hold up well when I slammed into the light pole. I'm going to have to pass."
