1) Bats are the only flying mammals. 2) Bats make up about 25% of all mammal species. However, about 50% of these species are endangered or threatened due to deforestation and misunderstanding of these animals. 3) Most bats in North America eat insects. One bat can eat up to 6,000 insects in one night. 4) Recent studies have shown that less than 1% of wild bats have rabies. In the past 50 years, less than 40 people have gotten rabies from a wild bat. 5) Bats are not blind. 6) The largest bat in the world, the Malayan Flying Fox, has a wingspan of about 6 feet. They only eat fruit. 7) There are 3 species of vampire bats that only live in southern Mexico, Central America, and South America. They are very small and only drink about 1 tsp of blood per feeding.
