7 Things You Should Not Get a Personal Loan For Print

Seven

1) Ice Cream Sundae - You may be thinking, "Why would I need a personal loan for a sundae?" Normally, you would not need to, but we're not talking about a normal sundae here. We're talking about the Golden Opulence Sundae at the world famous Serendipity 3 ice cream shop. This sundae goes for the small sum of $1,000. Factor in a tip on top of that and you're over $1,100 for an after-dinner treat.

2) Breast Augmentation - So you want dudes to check you out, or maybe you want other chicks to be jealous, but don't go bankrupt over them. What you do with your body is your business, but taking a personal loan out for something with no material value (just physical value) would not be a smart decision.

3) Gambling - Sure you've got the feeling that you're about to get on a hot streak, but taking out a loan so you can risk it all by gambling it away is still not a smart idea. Instead, consider taking $20 to the local arcade and spending the day there (or just an hour or two, $20 doesn't take you far at arcades nowadays). You'll spend a lot less, have about the same amount of fun, and not have to worry about selling a kidney to repay the loan.

4) Electronics - The newest gadgets are cool, but they're also expensive. On top of being expensive, they're also obsolete rather quickly. Taking a personal loan out that will possibly take you years to repay (past the usefulness of the electronic device) is just not a good decision. It's one thing to use your credit card when you know you can pay it off within a few months, it's quite another to take out a $3,500 loan for that 65" LED 3D television.

5) Car Upgrades - We're not talking about a normal car loan, or even normal car maintenance (new tires, etc.), but the upgrades that aren't necessary and don't add to the value of the car. Lift kits, spinning rims, and air bags are some examples of costly and unnecessary upgrades (okay, just kidding about the last one).

6) Tattoos - Unlike some of the items on this list, at least this one is permanent (which can be a good thing or a bad thing). But still, if you have to take a loan out to get a picture of your baby mama on your back maybe the money could be put to better use.

7) Christmas Presents - Who doesn't love Christmas? The air seems lighter, people's moods are more joyous, and you even get presents "just because." But it can be very easy to take it to the extreme with presents, especially if you're on a tight budget. If you're at the point where you need to take a loan out to finish your Christmas shopping then it's time to take a step back and see what else you can do. Sometimes a simple card with a candy cane will do the trick for co-workers. Your mother-in-law? She doesn't like you anyway and buying her a new fangled toaster probably isn't going to change that.
